Steve's Corner, Linguist Newsletter, April 2007

I am very happy today. We have taken a big step forward towards the full launch of LingQ, the new version of The Linguist. LingQ is designed to be more effective and more enjoyable than the existing Linguist system. What is more, it has been written in such a way that ongoing development of new and improved language learning features can be done more easily than before. We will be able to respond much more quickly to ideas and requests that we get from our users. We are entering a new era for The Linguist language learning community.

Today LingQ is being made available to our members. In this first stage of the introduction of the new system we want to focus on the existing users of The Linguist. We want to hear their reaction. There will be people who prefer some aspects of the old system. There will be people with good suggestions for improvement. We may encounter some problems since this system is new. We want to respond to all members' feedback as quickly as possible. This will make our system better and more robust.

Our existing members are already familiar with the function of our existing Linguist site. For the time being we do not have a manual for the new LingQ system. Most of the basic functions are similar. If there are questions we hope to hear about them via email or on the Linguist Forum. We should be able to explain most of the new features or deal with questions in this way. In the future we will develop tutorials and helpful explanations in various languages.

Once we at The Linguist head office, and our tutors and existing users, are satisfied with the new LingQ system, then we want to open it up to new members. This will mean that we will start offering the opportunity to learn languages other than English using LingQ. That will be another exciting step forward. Our members will be learning each others' languages. That opens up opportunities for members to help each other. We expect LingQ to be a dynamic learning community. We will be looking for your help and cooperation to make this a great success for everyone concerned.
