What's New at the Linguist, April 2007

At long last, the LingQ Beta is ready! I'm sure many of you thought this day would never come but it gives me great pleasure to finally tell you that the LingQ system is ready to go. Initially the Beta will only be available to existing members of TheLinguist but hopefully within the next month we will launch LingQ for everyone.

All members of TheLinguist will have to switch over to LingQ at some point. For the purposes of testing the new system and getting feedback, we hope many of you will switch over now. We feel that LingQ is much better in many ways than the current system and once you get started you won?t want to go back.

Initially, the beta will not include writing, speaking or pronunciation as those features will still have to happen on the Linguist site. However, we will copy over all your words and phrases to the new system and you will be able to do all your reading, listening and vocabulary activities on the LingQ site.

You will be able to log in at www.lingq.com, using the same login information as you are now using to access your account on TheLinguist. Once you are logged in, please take a little time to explore. You will see that the Linguist Library is now called the Store, and Read and Listen have been combined in the WorkDesk. Review is now called Vocabulary although you will be able to also work on your vocabulary in the WorkDesk.

Finally, you will see the Overview which is an overview of all your activities on LingQ. Right now it displays a Progress Snapshot of your activity and your Priority LingQs list. This Priority LingQs list contains the 25 most important words from your Saved words that you should focus on. The importance is determined by the frequency of these words in English.

Please get started on LingQ right away. We think it?s great but we need to hear from you, our loyal members. Any thoughts, suggestions or problems; any things that you feel are missing; please let us know. You can also post comments and read the latest news and updates on our LingQ Central blog. We will have FAQ's and Help information there during the beta period. I look forward to hearing from you all and getting your reactions.
