What's New at the Linguist, March 2005

Since the last installment of my column we have launched our new look. Reaction to our new front page so far has been excellent. Our key pages are more prominently displayed and the design is more pleasing. We also changed our membership levels about which we have again received positive feedback. Our Premium Members receive the same service but many of our Basic Members, who now receive writing, speaking and tutoring, are very appreciative of the increased services they are receiving.

At the same time, we have had some members who have told us they prefer not to write and speak but very much enjoy reading and listening to our content, reviewing their words and phrases, and working on their pronunciation. Due to this, feedback we are going to reintroduce a level which has no writing or speaking access. You will see that we now offer an Economy Membership for $20 a month. Economy Membership will give full access to all of our standard features. In addition, Economy Members will have their own personal tutor. They will be able to post forum questions on our content and will receive a monthly progress report.

Furthermore, many of you will have noticed the redesign of the Help features in the member area. This was done to make the key help features for new members more prominent. Also we wanted to make our Recommend a Friend program stand out better. For all members and potential members, this is our program which gives 1 free month of membership for every friend you refer to us. For more details visit this page: http://www.thelinguist.com/recommendAFriend.do .

With the completion of the new front page we are going to focus our attention, over the next few months, on some key enhancements to our member area. These will include, among other things, the opportunity to submit pronunciation samples for analysis, the ability to attach source sentences to your suggested phrases in your writing corrections, and a more formal testing system. If any of you have further suggestions on enhancements please let us know.
