EnglishLingQ - Who Is She?, Part 24

You see, George is a tutor with The Linguist online language system.

I do not understand.

He showed me how to learn on The Linguist. That is what really helped me.

You mean The Linguist system helped you even more than living with George?

Well they both helped me, but The Linguist is what really helped me.

I do not believe you. I don't get it. George made me understand that the way I was learning English was wrong. I was too concerned about grammar. I was too afraid to make mistakes. I was too worried about being embarrassed.

But don't you need to know grammar to speak well? No. I started to realize that if I enjoyed learning English, it did not matter if I made mistakes. Making mistakes would not embarrass me. Making mistakes was a part of learning.

So how did you learn?

George told me to just listen and read a lot and to save words and phrases on The Linguist. That is when I started to enjoy the language. That is when I started to really improve my English.

Just by not thinking of grammar you actually started to speak better?

Yes. I had to forget what I had been taught at school for so many years.
