The Rotary Club Interviews, Part 2

Steve,- now is the role of a female Rotarian any different than that of a male Rotarian? Do they, are there certain special advantages to being a female Rotarian or ways that you can contribute that are unique?

Theresa - Yes. In our club I have to give all the hugs. But no, there's no special distinction between male and female in Rotary in general. Although there's always, you have to have a good sense of humor as a female in Rotary because you do get, depending on the dynamics in your club, you do, you can come across a lot of joking so to speak. No, it's, I've found it, in our club of about 40 people we have, I believe 8 females now in our club and I've traveled, done what we call make-ups, if you're traveling, you're always welcome to do a, what they call a make-up meeting in another country and which has, been a really interesting in my travels when I've been, was in Ireland, was there and met with the local Rotary club there and found a lot of females. Mind you though, when I was in Barbados, was in there and there were no females. I walked in the door and they looked at my husband and thought he was the member which happens quite a bit, but it's a lot more accepting now throughout the world with females in Rotary. Steve - And do you have a special area of interest? Neil mentioned youth. Is there a particular area you tend to concentrate on in terms of your activities or contribution?

Theresa - well I am a past president, about 5 years ago I was the president of our club and as far as area of interest, I guess I've concentrated a lot in the administration and been on the board mostly, most of the time I've been involved. The youth area is definitely an area of interest for me as well. I just put in wherever I can but the administration side, we have a web site that I assist in maintaining and any other areas. I'm involved right now with helping the treasurer and I believe and in fund raising, always there. Steve - Well I think we'll end our discussion with this group, subgroup, and maybe ask the other 3 gentlemen to comment a little further on the same subject. So thank you very much.
