Greg Sesmat is June's Learner of the Month. He is thirty two years old and lives in Paris. He is responsible for maintaining the computer system in the French division of a large multinational corporation. Although Greg does not use English at work often, he uses it when he goes on vacation. Greg says, "It is a lot easier to communicate with German and English people than before. This is very important to me since I love to speak." Greg's wife has also noticed his improvement. She speaks English very well and is surprised by the amount of new vocabulary he has acquired.
Greg has been a member of The Linguist since October 2005 and he has submitted almost 6000 words of writing, and has learned almost 2000 words and phrases. He also regularly participates in discussions. When Greg first became a member he thought the discussions would be too difficult for him. However, speaking on The Linguist is now his favorite activity! He really enjoys speaking with people from around the world, learning about their culture and getting to understand their differences.
Greg learned English for eight years in high school and in university. However, the teaching focused a lot on grammar and verbs. This did not appeal to Greg and he finds the integrated approach of The Linguist much more helpful. Greg finds all the different features very enjoyable and he says, " I think that all the tasks are very important and I need each of them to like the whole Linguist system. I found a good balance." By continuing to use all the features of The Linguist system, Greg's English will only improve.
