Lingq Baseball Podcast 5 8 2009

This is Chris's baseball podcast for lingq.com on the eighth of May 2009. So there's a lot to talk about today. A lot going on in the world of baseball. So let's get started…. The big news that broke out yesterday was Manny Ramirez was suspended for 50 games for breaking the league's drug policy. He wasn't caught using steroids but a drug normally used as a woman's fertility drug that dopers use to pump up testosterone. It was on the Major League's black list and so Manny was taking it and now he's suspended. Who knows if he was actually doing steroids, I sort of lean towards the fact that he wasn't. He just doesn't seem like that kind of guy you know? So let's talk about what this does to the Dodgers. Well… nothing. They probably won't win as many games but that division is so weak that they'll probably still be in first place when Manny comes back… when he comes back with a vengeance. The Dodgers easily, I think the best team in baseball with Manny. What this really does is hurt the team on a more emotional level. The Dodgers were built around Manny, the city loved him, they say he was as loved as Kobe Bryant and now his reputation has been marred. Hopefully he comes out and sticks to his guns that he didn't do steroids, hopefully there's a good reason that he was taking a woman's fertility drug. But I doubt it.

So what else is happening besides Mannywood? Well the Dodger's home winning streak ended in their first game without Manny, they actually blew a five or six run lead. A-Rod is coming back this Friday to maybe instill some fire into those boring Yankees. Yankees have looked terrible without him, I'm not sure how good they'll look with him though. Blue Jays are flying in the face of everyone… they continue to win… but I'm still not convinced. They've not really played any games in their division yet, so let's see how they do against the Sox and the Rays before we hand them the division. The D-Backs fired their manager, no surprise there. They suck. Like I said before the NL West is painfully bad. Angels are getting all those injured players back soon, so they should be above .500 coming up real quick. The AL West is almost as bad as the NL West. No wonder everyone pays so much attention to the East Coast teams.

In other news Kansas City is still winning and I think they'll take that division, but it's really still up for grabs. Detroit and Minnesota aren't as bad as they're trying to make you think they are. And in the NL Central St. Louis is playing great and Larussa looks like he's on the way to a manager of the year award. Let's pray to the baseball gods that Pujos doesn't one day get caught taking woman's fertility drugs. That's it for now… Talk to you next time.
