Steve and Jill's podcasts, Words and phrases, an introduction

Steve: Hello Jill.

Jill: Hello. How are you?

Steve: Good. This is our chance to talk about words and phrases and the little things that are difficult for people when they are learning English. But first of all, Jill, it's a Tuesday but what did you do on the weekend? Jill: Actually this weekend was a little different than my regular weekends. I was looking after three kids all weekend so I just looked after three young kids all weekend.

Steve: But you liked doing it now don't you? Jill: I do, I do but, it's getting to the point now where I kind of want my weekends to do other things and to have my own time. It's hard to go somewhere Friday night and be there until Sunday night and then come back to work Monday. You don't really feel like you've had a break. Steve: Right, right. You know, it's a bit noisy and I am going to close. Why don't you chat about your weekend while I close the door here so we don't need to hear every helicopter and plane that goes by. But what we want to talk about, ok I did that while talking. We want to talk a little bit about the review section in the Linguist because that's where people will have an opportunity to go over the words and phrases that they have saved and of course they've listened to content and they've read it and then they've saved these words and phrases and then they go and review them. And, a number of our learners have said that after they've saved one thousand, two thousand, three thousand words it's very difficult to remember these words. And, of course, I've recommended that they try to reduce the size of the list so deal with 20 at a time and there are various filters at the review section they can select one content item or they can, Jill: Past several days. Steve: past several days. Good point.

Jill: Yeah, there's a couple more I think. Steve: They can search by suffix and prefix. It depends on how many words they have. So, and with all of that some of our learners have now started sending us lists. These are their tough lists. These are the words that they have trouble with and we are going to talk about words and phrases based on what we hear from our learners and some will be advanced and some will be intermediate and some will be beginner and we're going to begin with an advanced list. End.
