The Chocolate Chip Cookie
The chocolate chip cookie is a North American classic. It was first developed in the 1930's by a woman in Massachusetts. She apparently was trying to make a chocolate cookie and thought that by putting a cut-up chocolate bar into her cookie batter, that it would all melt together, and become a chocolate cookie. But it didn't. The cookie part remained a beige colour, and the chocolate pieces remained in tact. Since then, the chocolate chip cookie has remained a favorite of kids and adults alike throughout North America.
Baking a batch of these delicious goodies is like betting on a "sure thing". I've never met anyone who didn't like a chocolate chip cookie. Even people who don't really care for chocolate find it difficult to resist this cookie because it's not over powered by chocolate. There are a few variations you might want to try when making the chocolate chip cookie. For instance, if you like a crispier, crunchy cookie, simply reduce the amount of butter you use by about A? of a cup and increase the flour by about the same amount.
For nut lovers, there's nothing better that stirring in a cup of chopped walnuts or pecans when you stir the chocolate chips into your batter. Whatever variation you use, your friends and family will be sure to appreciate your efforts! Here is a list of ingredients and the amounts you will need so that you can try making these tasty treats at home.
1 Cup Packed Brown Sugar A? Cup White Sugar 1 Cup Butter (at room temperature) 2 Eggs 1 tsp. Vanilla 3 Cups Flour 1 tsp. Baking Soda 1 tsp. Salt 2 Cups Chocolate Chips First you must cream together the butter and both sugars in a bowl until light and fluffy. Then, beat in your eggs one at a time followed by the vanilla until all are well incorporated. Next, stir together the dry ingredients, (that is the flour, baking soda and salt) in a separate bowl until well combined.
Take these dry ingredients and mix well with the creamed butter mixture.
Lastly, it is time to add the Chocolate chips. Mix until the chips are distributed evenly throughout the batter. Taking a small spoon, drop a small amount of the dough (about an inch in diameter) onto a cookie sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 350 F. (or 200 Celcius) for about 12 minutes.
Remove from the oven when the cookies are golden brown around the edges and feel set in the middle.
Cool for a few minutes and enjoy!
