Letters from my cottage in England, Letter no 2 That's incredible! We can forget our meeting up in the Vendee: something really big happened …. Our little village has been rocked by a ginormous* scandal: we've never had anything like it! The neighbours to the left have talked about it so often and long with their son in Australia (yes, that's him, who was my friend Izzy's first boyfriend) that they have ‘donated' to BT* the equivalent of a month's salary – or more than that in my case. I've told you, haven't I, that my boss is a veritable Scrooge? (I love the characters in Dickens, don't you?) The neighbours to the right are very worked up and talk about their sense of let-down and even of not wanting to live here any longer. Well, I think they are afraid of being implicated in the scandal: come to think of it, they were very, very near to the source of it! We'll see…. You're interested in what I'm reading? This time I've read two quite short books and I'd recommend one of them, ‘Je vais bien, ne t'en fais pas' by Olivier Adam. The other …. Excuse me, there's someone at the door, the bell is going: my right hand neighbours. I have to go! Bye.
