Pratt & Taylor, Vancouver Sports Radio, Part 1

Part 1

Announcer: This here is Pratt & Taylor. The numbers to call are six oh four two eight oh team. Or on your cell at star team. Now here's David Pratt and Don Taylor. Pratt: Seven minutes after two o'clock. Welcome back to the road show everybody. Tonight is the night. Not the World Series. Six forty-nine. Forty million dollars on the table. Pretty much what everybody's talking about. Yeah the Canucks. Yeah the Lions. Yeah the World Series. Got your six forty-nine ticket?

Uh, that's our poll question. Sammy J. Peppers 'what's hot' poll question is if you won the forty million, what would you do with it? You can email us live at team ten forty dot CA.

I think most of us would pay off the mortgage. I mean, that would be the number one thing. Maybe, you know, you'd get the new car, that sort of thing. But do you know what the number one thing that you do not do if you win the forty million? Don't tell anybody. Ever! Just keep about your life the way - you know, oh yeah. Gee, some lucky guy. Just keep moving. I can never for the life of me - I never have been able to understand why people want to get their picture taken with this big check, forty-million dollars and they put it in the paper. Every person you've ever known in your life is going to call you. Every deadbeat cousin is going to call you. 'Cause their happy - no. 'Cause they want your money. Every thief, crook, weasel. Hack into your computer. Damn! Don't tell anybody. I think a lot of people would say well I - first thing I'd do is quit my job. Eh, I don't know about that. I like doing this. Yeah, I wish they'd pay me more, but I like doing this. I - I'd- so pay off the mortgage, and I'd keep working and I'd get a new car. But more importantly than anything else, I do not tell anybody that I got the forty million. Ever.

Start taking your calls in just a moment at two eight oh team. That's two eight oh eight three two six on the cell star team. Again, that's the Sammy J. Peppers 'what's hot' poll question of the day. What would you do if you won the forty million tonight? Six forty-nine today's poll question. Brought to you by Sammy J. Peppers for all of your football and hockey action. Do you get a load of this with the NHL. They have a zero tolerance. Zero tolerance for head coaches who are critical of the game, the rules and the officiating. This - this amazes me. I mean, wasn't it just a week ago that the commissioner of the NHL, Gary Bettman said that everything was wonderful? Ninety-three percent attendance capacity. Couldn't be better. So what's wrong with coaches that have got some critical remarks saying you know the officials gotta be more consistent? Gotta do something about, you know, the front of the net. Crashing the goal. Maybe we should look at that. You certainly have got to tweak the game a bit. It's gotta evolve. Already both Pat Quinn and Randy Carlisle have been fined because they spoke their mind. And let's be honest about it. As much as most of us like the new rule changes, and I do. And we're going to be talking to Phil Esposito in just a moment who does not like them. It has certainly opened up the game. It's been more fun to watch. But it's still pond hockey, and they still have gotta tweak it. And certainly in the United States, those fans have not come back. I don't know exactly where they got the ninety-three percent sold out thing. But if you've been watching any of the games on the highlights, there's a lot of empty seats in those American markets. Carolina, Chicago, that sort of thing.

And this deal with the Outdoor Life Network. A complete and utter disaster. Give you an idea of the failings of the NHL in the United States. The first check that the players got on the fifteenth of October, they had to kick up twelve percent, every player off their check to go into escrow, because the league is not meeting its budget expectations. The one point seven billion, it's a joke. No chance do they even get close to it.

They've got some problems. But putting a lid on the coaches.

Only a New York lawyer could come up with something like that.

Canucks last night three one in Minnesota. They're now eight, one and one. Great start to the season. Again, they keep getting it done and it comes from all sorts of places. Hendrik Sedin gets a goal. Ruutu gets a goal. Again Naslund gets another one.

They're in first place in the northwest division. They are one point behind Detroit. And if there is- and we talked about this yesterday about surprises in the NHL. Certainly Nashville which is now sitting there at eight and oh as they beat Chicago last night. But Detroit. When you go take a look at what they had to give up just to get under the cap, most people didn't think Detroit would be this good. And they lead the conference right now with eighteen points. But the most- most of the talk is going to be for the next couple of days, tomorrow's game in Colorado. The return of Todd Bertuzzi. As much as we may have kinda pooh-poohed it off and said you know what, game here in Vancouver. Colorado, pst just another game. It was. Fans in this city aren't crazy about it. They've dealt with it. Everybody's moved on. I can tell you this. They have not moved on in Denver. That's the real animal show and that's what Bertuzzi's gotta get through. And also, quickly with the Lions. If you have not heard, Dave Dickinson cleared to play. So there's the quarterback controversy. They're taking all four quarterbacks to Edmonton but it would be - it would be foolish, absolutely foolish not to start Casey Printers You've got the high side on that? Printers is gonna start?

That's the absolute right thing to do. Two eight oh team is the number. Two eight oh eight three two six on the cell star team. You can email us live at team ten forty dot CA.

Sammy J. Peppers 'what's hot' poll question, if you won the six forty-nine tonight, the forty million, what would you do with that bread? Get to the board and start taking your calls. Jeff go ahead, you're on the team. Jeff: Hey Dave. Uh, if I won the forty million, the first thing I'd do, buy the Team Ten Forty and fire your big fat leather clad ass. See, there you go. Now you're thinking. There you go. And if I got the forty million, I would never take your call again, 'cause I wouldn't have to. Albert, go ahead, you're on the team brother. Albert: Hey big daddy Pratt.

Yo!

Albert: Hey! Forty million. Isn't that what Don Taylor makes in a year? So why don't we ask him what's he going to do with it? Absolutely. Actually, he actually makes that a month. I mean - he's got - he's got like a gold plated parking spot right beside GM Place. There's ten million right there. John go ahead, you're on the team. John: Big daddy Pratt. Thanks for taking my call. First thing I'd do, go out and by myself some season tickets because, damn, I can't afford them right now. I just want to say keep up the good work. I don't care what those other clowns say, you provide me with entertainment. Thank you, John. Appreciate it brother. Jason, go ahead you're on the team. Jason: Uh, I think first thing I'd do is I'd take you down to Sammy J. Peppers and buy you a couple of double crown and cokes there big daddy. Outstanding!

Outstanding!

Outstanding!

Jason: Oh yeah. And then after that I think I'd probably do like the last caller there, buy some season tickets 'cause some of us can't afford the, I don't know how many thousands of grand that is to- Yeah, it's steep. Jason: -the season. After that, I don't know, we'll have to see. Play it by ear.

All right. I'd be happy with the pay per view. John, go ahead. You're on the team. John: I've got two things I'd do with the money. I think the first thing is I'd buy the Lions and make sure that Printers is nice and happy. And the other is, I've gotta say it, two women at the same time. Thanks.

Two chicks at the same time.

Ricky, go ahead, you're on the team. Ricky: Hey, Dave, how're ya doing? Good, bro'. Ricky: Great job out there. Uh, I would donate five thousand to Canuck Place for every Canuck win and every game that went into overtime I'd donate ten G's. Good stuff. That's good thinking man. Charity's gotta be part of it, no question about it. Back with more of your calls and Phil Esposito will joint us. You've got it on the Team Ten Forty Announcer: Pratt and Taylor afternoons. And the home of Vancouver's Canucks fans. This is the Team Ten Forty sports radio.
