Steve's Corner, Introduction

This is the first issue of our newsletter. I want to welcome you to the growing community of linguists around the world who are using our system to learn English.

I want to talk to you and I want to hear your views. You want to learn a new language and your opinion is important to me. It has taken us a long time to build The Linguist system. We have learned from many people's experience. We have also learned from our own mistakes.

We know our system and our community can only get better. One of my most important beliefs in language learning is what I call the "me" principle. What does this mean? It means that to learn a language you have to believe in "me", in yourself. You are an individual, regardless of your native language. You are able to learn any language you want, if you really want to. "Me" also refers to two key ideas in language learning -motivation and efficiency, M and E or "me". Always think of "me" when you are studying the language. "Me", I can do it. "Me" motivation and "me" efficiency. The Linguist is built around the "me" principle. We let you choose interesting content to keep you motivated. We ask you to discover the language by picking words and phrases that you want to learn and use. Then we have designed the language learning engine for maximum efficiency, so that you can learn these words and phrases and really make them a part of you.

We have built in measurement to ensure continued efficiency. So please take advantage of all of the features of our system. There is a reason we have designed our system the way we have. Keep working and believe in yourself. If you sometimes feel that you are falling behind, remember "me" and work even harder.
