For the past year and a half, I have been practicing a type of holistic healing called reflexology. To many, reflexology is simply a hand and foot massage, but there is much more to it than that. The theory behind reflexology is that there are reflexes on the hands and feet that correspond to the different organs, glands and systems in the body. By stimulating or relaxing these parts of the body, a person often experiences many health benefits.

The number of treatments needed to notice an improvement varies depending on the person. The longer a symptom or ailment has been present, the longer it will take to heal that symptom or ailment. Once you are in good health, regular maintenance is generally required once or twice per month.

In my experience, I have found that reflexology promotes relaxation, increased circulation and a decrease in anxiety and depression. It is also very beneficial if you suffer from a sluggish liver, digestive problems, PMS, and many other common ailments. Furthermore, by working on the reproductive, endocrine, urinary and nervous systems, women who are having difficulties becoming pregnant will sometimes be able to conceive.

Reflexology is also a great way to be proactive when it comes to your health. Because it helps to clear blockages, to detoxify organs and to strengthen the immune system, reflexology is excellent for promoting and maintaining good health.

The treatment is not generally painful, although there may be some tenderness in areas that require extra attention. For example, if you are suffering from thyroid problems, the area on the foot that corresponds to the thyroid gland may feel tender or even painful when it is massaged. However, most people feel deeply relaxed and often fall asleep during treatment.

I highly recommend reflexology to everybody. It will more than likely be the most enjoyable hour of your day, week or even month. Even those who feel healthy will notice a sense of peace and happiness at the end of a treatment and for the remainder of that day.
