Sleep Problems, Part 4

Part 4

Make sure no part of you is tense. Close your eyes and breathe slowly and deeply. Listen quietly to your breathing. Try to fill your mind with calm, beautiful thoughts.

But what happens if we try all these ideas and they do not work? Sometimes it is just too difficult to forget our worries and go to sleep. Sometimes we wish that there were someone who would share our problems. We wish that they would lift the heavy loads from our minds.

The Christian Bible teaches that God is someone just like that - for people who follow him. It says that he knows every detail of their lives. He knows all the things that worry them - however big or small those things may be. And it says that he wants to help his followers by carrying the heavy loads of worry []. It says, 'Give all your worries to God, because he cares for you'. Many people do not believe that they could be that close to God. But the Bible says that they can. When someone understands this truth about God, it becomes easier to trust him.

There is a story in the Bible about a man called Peter who was completely sure he could trust God. Peter was in prison. His crime was that he was a follower of the Lord Jesus. Soldiers tied Peter up and stood at all the doors and gates to prevent him from escaping. Peter knew that the king was going to kill him the next morning. How many of us could sleep through a situation like that? Peter did!

Peter knew two things. He knew God loved him and he knew God would be with him and help him. So he slept.
