Rita Ajpek is our Linguist Learner of the Month. She is a 29 year old Hungarian woman who has been living in Perugia, Italy since 1995. She attended university there and completed an MA in Liberal Arts-specializing in economics.
Rita has saved over 3000 words and phrases since she started using The Linguist in October. She has also submitted over 1500 words of writing and regularly listens to Linguist content. She started to study English two years ago after she graduated from university because she thought it would help her find a good job. She started by taking a traditional English course, but it was too boring. After that, she studied one-on-one with a teacher. This helped her with her speaking, but she wasn't taught to write and it was quite expensive. She also tried Englishtown, but the discussions often had 12 learners present and the writing correction was done by a computer, not a person. She found The Linguist a few months ago by searching for on-line courses on the internet. Rita thought that Steve's method of learning English seemed interesting and that it was worth a try. Rita says: This learning system is really different from the others I have tried. You don't have to learn grammar rules or learn from boring contents. I always wondered why in other courses I was supposed to be interested in English recipes. In The Linguist Library you can find a large number of contents to study on very different issues and you can import articles from the internet as well. With The Linguist, you learn the way a child learns his mother tongue. You listen to the language until you get used to it. It is really easy. I enjoy this way of learning because I can read interesting contents while studying and speaking with people from all over the world. The tutors are very friendly and I am always very happy when I can chat with them.
I have been studying with The Linguist since October and I feel more confident speaking in English and I can read faster. The most interesting thing is that I have started to think in English. I have some troubles with writing, but I am sure it will go better and better. My advice to anyone who is looking for a very effective method of learning English, is to try The Linguist.
