EnglishLingQ - Eating Out, Part 7

Part 7

Well, have you made up your minds?

Yes, I will have bean soup to start. Then I will have roast chicken.

That is a fine choice. What about you?

I'll have a salad to start and then I will try your spaghetti special.

Would you like some wine with the meal?

Yes please. Please bring us a half-bottle of your house red wine.

A half-bottle of the house red coming right up. I will also bring you some bread. Is there anything else you would like?

No that is all, thank you.

So, tell me Peter, what are your parents doing these days?

My Dad is still working. My Mom is enjoying working in the garden.

It seems they are both busy. Are they in good health?

Yes, they are. How about your parents?

My parents are away visiting their relatives in the East.

Which relatives live there?

My mother's brother and sister live there. I am quite close to my uncle and aunt.

Are they older or younger than your parents?

They are quite a bit older. They are still very active though.

What do they do to stay active?

They have always had an active life. My uncle worked for a large company as a salesman. My aunt was a school teacher. They are both retired now.

Do they live in the city or in the country?

They live in a beautiful house in the country, not too far from the city.

That must be nice.

Yes, they can go for walks in the forest for much of the year. In the winter they can ski.

Do they miss the city?

No, they are just 30 minutes by car from downtown. They can also take the train.

Here comes our food.
